'Pretty remarkable slip' by Trump sets him up for another big loss: expert

President Donald Trump's newly announced ban on multiple news outlets is headed for a major fall when a legal challenge is presented to a judge — and he will have only himself to blame.

That is the opinion of Hofstra University Law Professor James Sample, who made a strong case on Monday morning that CNN, MS NOW and Politico will win their legal challenge, filed Monday morning, to what amounts to censorship by banning them from the White House.

Speaking with host MS NOW Stephanie Ruhle, Sample noted that the president slipped up in defending his decision by making it more about him than defending the functioning of government being harmed.

“That is the absolute worst thing that you can do as the government when it comes to regulating speech,” he emphatically asserted. “It's not the case that the government can never regulate speech, it's not the case that the government can never regulate access for the media. But when the government chooses to open the people's house to the media, it cannot then pick and choose based on the perspectives, the viewpoint of that particular media organization, or the perceived perspectives of that particular media organization.”

"So when he says, because they're fake news, when he says purposely negative stories, when he says, ‘I don't have to let them’ — Freudian slip —into my, into the people's house, which is a pretty remarkable slip, if you think about it. He thinks it's his — it's not. This is the government of the United States, it’s the people’s house.”
