House lawmakers shelve impeachment efforts against Trump

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted Tuesday to shelve an effort to impeach President Donald Trump.

The effort failed by a vote of 344-79.

Filed Tuesday morning by U.S. Rep. Al Green (D-TX), the article of impeachment called for Trump’s removal primarily over his order to strike Iran last weekend, which Green called unconstitutional due to the authority to declare war resting solely with Congress.

The filing also cites Trump’s mass deportations, his defiance of federal judges in trying to halt those deportations, and his denial of migrants' due process.

No Republican voted against tabling the article of impeachment, with all 79 dissenting votes cast by Democratic lawmakers.
